This is a very nice original Gew 98 rifle made by Spandau in 1915. The bore is in good shape with strong rifling and shine throughout with a little frosting the grooves. The stock and bands are matching along with the trigger guard. The floorplate, magazine follower and bolt are not matching. The bolt headspaces well to the rifle and is a WWI Gew98 bolt. The curiosity of this rifle is that is the length of a K98k, but still retains the original "roller coaster" rear sight. Most K-98 conversions were fitted with the upgraded K98k style rear sight. This appear to have been arsenal done and looks great. The metal finish is good with the blued parts retaining their blue and the parts such as receiver and bolt being in the white with some staining to the metal. The wood is in good shape with one very small hairline crack at the wrist and few small dents. There are no import marks on this rifle.
This is a very neat rifle and one that won't stick around long!
